A look at the top Orange County high school players to watch this season:

TOP OC PLAYERS

Will Burns, Trabuco Hills: A junior transfer from Mission Viejo, Burns is a slugging shortstop who committed to Texas Tech. He was the Mustangs’ starting quarterback in the fall.

Xavier Cadenas, Servite: The ace of the Friars formidable pitching staff is a 6-6 senior right-hander. The San Diego State signee’s fastball has been clocked in the mid-90s.

Derek Curiel, Orange Lutheran: The Lancers’ speedy center fielder is an LSU commit. He has been labeled by some as one of the top sophomores — and perhaps the best — in the nation.

Tyler Goff, JSerra: The junior right-hander has committed to Oregon State. Gough has what Lions coach Brett Kay calls “electric stuff.”

Gavin Grahovac, Villa Park: A power-hitting shortstop, he was the Crestview League MVP last season. The Texas A&M commit has been labeled the best junior in California.

David Horn, JSerra: The 6-4 senior is a right-handed pitcher and first baseman. The Vanderbilt signee was a key contributor last season as the Lions reached the CIF-SS Division 1 final.

Matthew Morrell, Cypress: The outstanding junior center field is committed to Oregon State. He showed his athletic versatility during the football season as a receiver and quarterback.

Austin Overn, Foothill: Overn, a senior center fielder, was also great at football this past fall. The USC signee last season batted .419 with 22 RBIs and 26 stolen bases.

Mikey Romero, Orange Lutheran: The senior shortstop, who signed with LSU, might be the Lancers’ best player. That is quite an accomplishment given the deep talent on that roster.

Oliver Santos, Orange Lutheran: The senior left-hander was home-schooled before enrolling at Orange Lutheran this school year. He is an MLB Draft prospect and Duke commit with a fastball that has reached 95 mph.
