Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, suggested Thursday, Feb. 10, that he might not perform at April’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival after a social media spat with fellow headliner Billie Eilish.

In an Instagram post, Ye suggested that Eilish’s interaction with a fan at a weekend concert in Atlanta was disrespectful to rapper Travis Scott and she needs to apologize before he performs at the eagerly awaited event, which returns to the Empire Polo Club in Indio April 15-17 and 22-24. The post also included that Ye planned to have Scott appear with him at the festival.

West posted an image from outlet Rapsea TV that showed photos of Eilish and Scott with the superimposed text “Billie Eilish dissed Travis Scott at her concert after she stopped the show to give her fan an inhaler! ‘I wait for the people to be okay before I keep going’.”

Ye’s comment with the photo reads, “Come on Billie we love you please apologize to Trav and to the families of the people who lost their lives no one intended this to happen Trav didn’t have any idea of what was happening when he was on stage and was very hurt by what happened and yes Trav will be with me at Coachella but now I need Billie to apologize before I perform.”

Eilish had paused her set to get an inhaler to a front-row fan who seemed to be in distress and commented, “We’re taking care of our people,” as reported by Variety, the entertainment trade publication, and other news outlets.

Eilish replied to Ye’s post that she didn’t say anything about Travis Scott and was just helping a fan.

Coachella 2022: Complete lineup of who is playing

The exchange was quickly picked up by Variety, Rolling Stone and TMZ.

In November 2021, Scott’s set at Astroworld, his festival in Houston, ended in tragedy when fans rushed the stage, leading to 10 deaths.

This spring will be the first time Coachella has taken place since 2019, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Kanye West, performing under that name, conducted an Easter service at the 2019 event.

Scott was booked to headline the 2020 festival that never happened and was expected to play in 2022 before the Astroworld tragedy. Facing multiple lawsuits from the tragedy and fan protests, he was removed from the Coachella schedule.

Ye is scheduled to close out both weekends of the festival on Sunday, April 17 and 24.

Eilish will headline both Saturday nights, April 16 and 23.

The Friday night headliner is Harry Styles, April 15 and 22.

The lineup was announced on Jan. 12 and remaining festival passes sold out within two hours.
