The winds will be howling a different tune on Sunday, with strong west winds, rather than Santa Anas, expected to hit Southern California’s mountains and deserts.

A wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service from 11 a.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday in Riverside County’s mountains, along with San Diego County mountains and deserts and Coachella Valley, said NWS meteorologist Mark Moede.

Winds are estimated to reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, but they should be strongest from San Gorgonio Pass into the northern Coachella Valley.

While Saturday brought much-appreciated warm temperatures and light winds across the region, Sunday is expected to cool down in areas west of the mountains as a trough moves across the region.

Monday, however, will see temperatures start to rise again, with forecasters predicting they’ll be in the high 70s to low 80s in inland communities. Dry, warm weather should extend through the week.
