The OC Health Care Agency reported 281 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, March 8, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 541,463.

There were 5,528 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Tuesday.

There were 13 fewer patients testing positive for COVID-19 reported in Orange County hospitals, making for 166 people, including 28 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported seven more deaths on Tuesday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,696.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Feb. 27.

Of the 6,696 deaths reported from the virus, 1,295 were skilled nursing facility residents, 683 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 526,230 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
