Steve Fryer’s list of outstanding baseball players last week, March 8:

Darian Choi, Sunny Hills, Fr., P/SS: He struck out seven over five innings of pitching and had two hits with three RBIs for the Lancers in a 9-3 win over Buena Park in a Freeway League game.

Chad Gurnea Pacifica, Jr., P: Gurnea shut out Ocean View on two hits with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a 1-0 victory. He committed to Cal State Fullerton.

Josh Pugh, El Dorado, Sr., P: He threw a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the Golden Hawks’ 2-0 win over Esperanza. Pugh, who signed with Concordia University in Irvine, was 9-2 last season with a 1.92 ERA.

Jarett Sabol, Aliso Niguel, Fr., C: Sabol was 3 for 3 with a double and drove in four runs in the Wolverines’ 12-2 win over Mission Viejo. He is batting .318.

Trevor Scott, Estancia, Sr., P: He pitched a shutout in which he allowed two hits with 13 strikeouts and at the plate over a three-game stretch he was 6 for 9 with six RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored.
