The OC Health Care Agency reported 1,066 new cases of the coronavirus over the weekend, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 541,182 as of Monday, March 7.

There were 5,247 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Monday.

There were 23 fewer patients testing positive for COVID-19 reported in Orange County hospitals, making for 179 people, including 37 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported 31 more deaths since Friday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,689.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Feb. 27.

Of the 6,689 deaths reported from the virus, 1,293 were skilled nursing facility residents, 683 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 525,308 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
