The OC Health Care Agency reported 427 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday, March 3, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 539,663.
There were 5,055 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Thursday, down from a week ago when 7,162 were tallied in the space of two weeks.
There were 11 fewer patients testing positive for COVID-19 reported in Orange County hospitals on Thursday, making for 206 people, including 34 who needed to be in intensive care units.
The county reported 15 more deaths on Thursday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,643.
The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Feb. 22.
Of the 6,643 deaths reported from the virus, 1,286 were skilled nursing facility residents, 678 were in assisted living facilities, one was an O.C. jail inmate and 21 were listed as homeless.
It is estimated 521,893 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

The OC Health Care Agency also reported 2,268,578 Orange County residents were fully vaccinated as of Thursday. This represents about 70% of Orange County’s total population.
There have been 1,207,236 booster doses administered, which represents 26% of total doses that have been administered in Orange County.
