John Morris resigned as Servite’s basketball coach, a position he held for 12 seasons.
The Friars this season went 12-12 overall. They were 12-1 outside of the Trinity League. Servite was 0-10 in the Trinity and, having qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs as an at-large team, lost to Canyon in the first round in Division 2AA.
Servite qualified for the playoffs nine times during Morris’ tenure. The Friars advanced to the quarterfinals three times and the semifinals once.
Morris, 38, said the timing was right for him to leave the basketball program at Servite where he will continue as a teacher.
“Coaching takes up a lot of time,” he said. “There’s a lot of life I’ve missed out on.
“I’m happy with the job I’ve done with the program for the past 12 years. It’s time for a new chapter in Servite basketball.”
