The Russian invasion of Ukraine has prompted a number of rallies, protests and vigils in the Southern California area.

The assault, which commenced early Thursday, unleashed airstrikes on cities and military bases and sent troops and tanks from multiple directions.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden warned that U.S. believes Russian President Vladimir Putin has ambition to go beyond Ukraine — action that experts say could re-shape the geo-political map and reshape global security alliances.

The invasion of a sovereign nation has shocked and outraged much of the world, including in Southern California, where thousands of expatriates live.

Many were already voicing their heard on the invasion on Thursday morning at the Federal Building in Westwood.

But other local events were already popping up:

THURSDAY

STUDIO CITY: At 6 p.m.,  members of the Russian community in Los Angeles were planning to demonstrate in opposition to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, at Andrei Sakharov Square, 12100 Ventura Blvd.
LOS ANGELES: At 6 p.m., there will be a vigil for peace at Nativity of BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, 5154 De Longpre Ave., Los Angeles.

Protests were also scheduled for New York, Washington Houston and Denver, according to social media, as well as cities around the world on Thursday.
