Aaron Riekenberg has resigned as boys basketball coach at La Habra, a position he held for nine seasons.

Riekenberg said he resigned to create more time for his family.

He coached the Highlanders to the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA championship in the 2023-24 season. Riekenberg’s teams won three league championships.

Riekenberg was the Orange County boys basketball coach of the year for the 2023-24 season. He also was a Fullerton Union High School District teacher of the year that school year.

He was the Buena Park coach for one season before taking the La Habra coaching job. Riekenberg’s 10-season record is 203-79. Riekenberg was an assistant coach at Buena Park before being promoted to head coach.

Riekenberg’s wife Shelley is a counselor at Los Alamitos High School. Their children are 7 and 5 years old.

“I will cherish the memories made with coaches, administration, parents, community members and most importantly the players,” Riekenberg said via text message. “This is not an easy decision as coaching is part of my identity, but I trust the ‘WeCulture’ we built will live on without me.”
