Lunar New Year is a big holiday for Panda Express, although it doesn’t show up on the menu.

The Year of the Horse begins Tuesday, Feb. 17. The horse is the seventh of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. Each animal returns every 12 years, bringing its special characteristics to play. The horse is considered hardworking, smart and friendly. This year’s element is fire, so the Fire Horse, which returns every 60 years, has a little extra kick.

This year’s promotions include a digital scratcher game that rewards members can play for the chance to win prizes such as one $888 gift card and eight $88 cards as well as food discounts.

Panda Express also has a new short animated film called “Wishes.” It stars Lofi Girl, a brand character for a French YouTube music channel on YouTube. In it, the young girl experiences the wonders of a Lunar New Year celebration in San Francisco’s Chinatown and the joy of reuniting with a family member.

A restaurant at 2011 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, will have Lofi-themed entertainment with DJ Nick Cheo. Customers who purchase a Panda Plate will receive access to the show and a goodie bag, according to a news release from the Rosemead-based quick-service chain.

Be aware that this location is 3,000 square feet, a little bit larger than most freestanding Panda Express restaurants.

There’s also a partnership with Fortnite Creative that takes players to a New Year’s celebration in the player created game “Drive City.” Panda Express shows it off on its TikTok channel.

Finally, there’s a Panda Express Year of the Horse playlist on Spotify.

As for its menu, Panda Express is currently featuring trendy Balanced Protein Plates.
