A vehicle slammed into a supermarket in Westwood on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 5 — killing three people and injuring seven others.

The crash was reported at 12:11 p.m. at the 99 Ranch Market at 1350 S. Westwood Blvd., on the corner of Rochester Avenue.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, with the seven others taken to hospitals.

It was unclear where the three victims who died were located, although video from the scene showed at least one body outside the store.

Reports from the scene indicated that some people wound up trapped beneath the vehicle inside the market.

A triage operation was set up by LAFD personnel outside the market, an Asian foods store.

The massive rescue response closed a stretch of Westwood Boulevard, which was completely blocked by emergency vehicles.

It remained unclear what caused the crash.

Reports from the scene suggested the driver may have struck or swerved to avoid a bicyclist, then crashing through the front windows of the store and careening into the bakery area.

The building was previously the site of a Borders bookstore.
