A mid-century Idyllwild home owned by the British actor and filmmaker Emrhys Cooper is on the market for $1.3 million.

Perched on a nearly half-acre wooded hillside lot with tree-top and mountain views, this 2,920-square-foot house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Records show Cooper, who shares the home with husband Donal Brophy, bought the vintage 1973 property in July 2020 for $638,000.

Cooper and Brophy, founders of the Los Angeles-based independent entertainment company Idyllwild Pictures, have since reimagined the home from the studs out, filling it with $100,000 in furnishings, which are included in the sale price. They describe the finished retreat as “James Bond villain meets exiled Italian count.”

But at its core, this is a mountain retreat.

The front door sits at the top of a staircase, with firewood storage underneath the landing.

Both levels of the house invite the outdoors into nearly every room, including the entry-level great room with a modern fireplace and fold-away glass doors. They seamlessly connect the room to a fireside conversation area on the deck, which in turn connects to the other outdoor terraces by stairs.

Natural light fills the interior through windows, clerestories, and skylights. Heavy wood beams, geometric floor tiles and colorful accents adorn the interior.

The new kitchen features stone countertops, stainless steel appliances and an oversized island, plus a breakfast nook by the bay window.

Also on the entry level is the primary suite, which features a sitting room, a claw-foot tub and a walk-in closet.

Downstairs amenities include a billiards room, a kitchen, an office and a pub-inspired wet bar.

A barrel sauna and hot tub add to the outdoor amenities.

Cooper is an award-winning filmmaker and actor known for starring in the Emmy-nominated StyleHaul drama series “Vanity” alongside Denise Richards and Karrueche Train, while Brophy is a restaurateur-turned-actor and producer who hails from Ireland.

The Idyllwild retreat isn’t their first makeover. As previously reported by the Southern California News Group, the couple transformed a California ranch-style home designed by Cliff May in the 1940s in Palm Springs.

That property listed in January 2024 for $2.2 million but ultimately did not sell. Records show Cooper still owns it.
