21-year-old suspect arrested in Orange car shooting death

A 21-year old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 24-year-old Amber Nicole Parsons, who was killed as she drove in a cul-de-sac in Orange early Tuesday, May 6.

The suspect has been identified as Allan Plata of Orange. He was arrested just after 5 p.m. on Friday at a residence in La Habra. Plata was booked into Orange County jail on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and a probation violation, according to Orange police Lt .Phil McMullin.

Parsons, of Costa Mesa, was driving her Honda SUV near Highland Street and Del Mar Avenue in Orange around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday when a male fired into the vehicle multiple times, killing Parsons and injuring a passenger. The passenger was identified as a female in her twenties. The male suspect ran from the scene with a handgun, according to police.

The killing was the first homicide in Orange in two years, McMullin said.

Information regarding a motive or if there is a connection between the suspect and the victims was not immediately available.
