HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Huntington Beach baseball team got an efficient outing from starting pitcher Tyler Bellerose and excellent relief pitching from Duncan McLeod, Jake Frohn and Jared Marchbank in a 7-1 victory over Marina in a Sunset League game Tuesday at Marina High School.
The Oilers (3-0, 2-0), who are ranked No. 1 in Orange County, were leading 4-1 in the sixth when Trent Grindlinger’s two-run home run and C.J. Weinstein’s RBI double broke the game open.

Bellerose was the winning pitcher, allowing a run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts. He threw 62 pitches over four innings.
McLeod, Frohn and Marchbank each pitched an inning, combing for four strikeouts and allowing one hit.
The four innings from Bellerose set the tone, Oilers coach Benji Medure said, with the three relivers riding the energy throughout the remainder of the game.
“We have four games this week, back to back to back to back,” Medure said. “We had to plan out our pitching so that those guys that went one inning today are going to go a bunch of innings on Friday. That’s a shot in the arm. We needed that from those three guys.”
The Oilers play the Vikings (7-3, 0-1) again Wednesday at Huntington Beach High, then play Fountain Valley on Thursday at Fountain Valley before returning to Marina on Friday to complete the three-game series with the Vikings.
Marina scored first when Max Conde singled home Luke Pratali in the second to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
Huntington Beach came right back in the third, scoring four runs on just one hit by taking advantage of three walks and a hit batter.
Jayton Greer’s RBI double was the only hit in the inning.
“As a pitcher, we love that,” Bellerose said. “Giving up the run in the second inning and us coming right back with four runs.”
Marina threw two runners out at home.
With Tanner Brown on third and one out in the fourth, Weinstein hit a fly ball that was caught by left fielder Shayden Sorochman, who then made a perfect throw to Conde, the catcher, who put the tag on Tanner Brown to complete the double play and end the inning.
In the fifth, Cole Clark tried to score from third on a ground out in the infield, but pitcher Bradley Hall threw home to Conde, who tagged out Clark.
