In a late-night deal that essentially cost them nothing, the Ducks acquired defenseman Oliver Kylington from the New York Islanders in exchange for future considerations, both clubs announced in news releases.
Kylington, 27, should be familiar to Ducks fans from his time with the Calgary Flames, which was interrupted by a personal absence for mental-health reasons that spanned a full season and part of another. That came after a career-best campaign that saw him rack up 31 points in 73 games for Calgary in 2021-22.
This season, he had four points in 13 games as a depth defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche, with whom he signed as a free agent last summer. The Avs dealt him to the New York Islanders on Thursday night as part of a hefty package for equally hefty center Brock Nelson, with the Islanders sending him to Anaheim before he ever landed on Long Island.
Kylington will report to the Ducks and likely act as their seventh defenseman while Olen Zellweger moves into the spot vacated by the departure of Brian Dumoulin, whom the Ducks traded to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a second-round pick and prospect winger Herman Träff.
