A 36-year-old supervisor at the U.S Postal Service office in Costa Mesa was arrested Thursday morning, Dec. 19, after she was accused of depositing roughly $281,000 in stolen checks.

The Compton woman allegedly stole over 20 checks from mail at the Costa Mesa Post Office on Adams Avenue, where she worked, and deposited them into her various bank accounts, according to a federal criminal complaint filed Wednesday.

Since July 2024, a total of $281,000 was deposited with forged signatures of the payees, including one check worth more than $114,000.

Surveillance footage captured her making deposits with multiple stolen checks at ATMs in Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, and Compton, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

She was arrested on one count of bank fraud.

The woman also is suspected of stealing $20,000 in currency and Federal Reserve notes, and about $15,000 in gold coins from the same post office, the complaint states.

On Thursday morning, federal agents from the U.S Postal Service Office of Inspector General executed search warrants at her home and 2023 BMW.

No additional information on the searches was immediately provided.
