Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.
Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.

Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at midnight, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

Ava Houlahan, Laguna Beach: The Princeton-bound attacker tallied 11 goals, seven assists and eight steals in four matches to help lead the Breakers to an eighth consecutive title at the Bill Barnett Holiday Cup and a 42nd consecutive victory overall. Houlahan capped the tournament by scoring the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime in 10-9 victory against Newport Harbor in the final.
Ella Estabrook, West Torrance: Estabrook scored 19 points to lead West to a 57-44 win over Woodbridge in the finals of the Savanna Tournament. Estabrook was named tournament MVP.
Alanna Young, Newbury Park: Young helped the Panthers reach the championship game in a tournament at Burroughs High last week. She scored 29, 33, 36, and 27 points, in wins over Chavez, Grant, Yeshiva, and Wilson, respectively. The senior center also logged double digits in rebounding in three of the four games, including 15 boards in the championship game.
Maryah Anderson, Claremont: Anderson averaged 19 points and 3.8 steals per game to help the wolfpack capture the championship at the inaugural Christina Mauser Memorial Tournament in Huntington Beach. She scored a career-high 26 points in the semifinal victory over Dana Hills. Anderson, a foot-11 guard, shot 51.7% from the field during the tournament and knocked down nine 3-pointers in four games. She is averaging a team-high 16.3 points and 3.3 steals per game this season.
Alicia Calderon, Millikan: The goalkeeper posted four shutouts in two days as the Rams won the CD Pool championship in the prestigious North Orange County Tournament. She made a huge save in regulation and then denied Tesoro a winning penalty kick during the tiebreaker in the title game. She made key saves in wins over Upland (2-0), La Serna (2-0) and Warren (3-0).
