Rose Parade 2020 forecast: Chilly, but no rain

Pasadena’s Rose Parade is mere days away and the annual classic packed with marching bands and fabulous floats is expected to bring with it another tradition — California sunshine on New Year’s Day.

The region will get a break from a series of December storms, forecasters say.  Nonetheless, the morning of the parade will be a chilly one.

The National Weather Service forecasts a chance of rain in Pasadena every day through Thursday, Dec. 30, the final day of Bandfest, but showers are expected to ease up in time for Jan. 1’s parade and Rose Bowl football game.

Tournament officials confirmed this week that all currently scheduled Rose events will go forward no matter the weather conditions this week, including Equestfest on Wednesday and Bandfest on Wednesday and Thursday. You can also watch all three sessions of Bandfest streamed live on the Tournament of Roses’ Youtube account.

The morning of Jan. 1 is expected to be a cold one, according to the National Weather Service, which forecasts a low of 34 degrees on Friday Night.

New Year’s Day is expected to be sunny overall, though, with a high near 56 degrees.

Because wind-chill temperatures are expected to fall below freezing in many areas in the coming days, the Los Angeles County Health Officer issued a Cold Weather Alert for seven areas of the county this week.

The alert, issued Monday, remains effective in Burbank, the San Gabriel Valley and Pomona through Wednesday.

The health department suggested that, to protect yourself from the cold, dress in layers of warm clothing if you plan to be outdoors; and protect head, hands and feet by wearing a hat, scarf, gloves and socks.
