NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Chargers worked overtime Sunday only to see Nick Folk kick a 41-yard field goal with 5:02 left in the extra period to give the Tennessee Titans a 27-24 victory. The Chargers remained winless after last week’s season-opening loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The Titans took a 24-21 lead on Ryan Tannehill’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine with 2:22 remaining. It left the Chargers with plenty of time to drive, not to mention three timeouts plus the two-minute warning, for a tying field goal from Cameron Dicker or a go-ahead touchdown.

Dicker’s 33-yard field goal sent the game to OT tied 24-24.

In overtime, the Chargers went three and out and JK Scott punted.

The Chargers trailed 17-14 going into the fourth quarter, having squandered an 11-0 lead that featured an 8-yard touchdown pass from a scrambling Justin Herbert to Keenan Allen and a two-point conversion pass to offensive lineman Trey Pipkins III. The two-point conversion was set up by a roughing the passer penalty.

Herbert and Allen connected for a 12-yard touchdown pass to put the Chargers back in front 21-17 only 22 seconds into the fourth quarter. Herbert drove the Chargers on a seven-play, 80-yard drive that took only 3:01. His scoring pass to Allen came on the second play of the fourth quarter.

Tennessee seemed to be going nowhere slowly when Tannehill hit a wide open Treylon Burks for a 70-yard gain that set up Derrick Henry’s 1-yard leap into the end zone that cut the Chargers’ lead to 11-7 midway through the second quarter. The Chargers led 14-10 at halftime.

The Chargers played without running back Austin Ekeler, who rushed for 117 yards and one touchdown during last week’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. Ekeler injured his ankle during the game and didn’t practice during the week. In addition, linebacker Eric Kendricks was sidelined by a hamstring injury.
