What’s at stake?: The Bruins have a favorable schedule this season, but Coach Chip Kelly knows to treat every game as important as the next and that’s no different this week. Kelly mentioned he would play three quarterbacks on Saturday. With a look at each of them in live game action and some game film to evaluate the rest of the week, it might help the Bruins get one step closer to figuring out what to make of the position. A win this week might also give the Bruins some momentum going into next week’s game at San Diego State.

Who’s better?: UCLA might have better talent at each position group other than quarterback. Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall is an experienced signal caller who’s mentioned among some of the best this season by college football pundits. He holds the school record with 95 career touchdowns. Latiatu Latu has All-American potential and will look to show that his first season back from medical retirement was no fluke. He led the Bruins with 12½ tackles for a loss and 10½ sacks in 13 games played last season.

Matchup to watch: The UCLA secondary against Coastal Carolina’s receivers. The Bruins return experience but will have redshirt freshman Kamari Ramsey making his first career start at safety. The Bruins’ top cornerback, Devin Kirkwood, is healthy after missing the final four games last season due to a wrist injury. McCall may look to test their ability early. The Chanticleers return leading receivers Sam Pinckney and Jared Brown. The duo combined for 1,785 receiver yards and nine touchdowns last season.

UCLA wins if: The Bruins will have success if the defense doesn’t show signs of miscommunication as D’Anton Lynn calls his first college game as a defensive coordinator. Latu and the Murphy twins must apply pressure up front and frustrate McCall and limit his playmaking ability. Lynn will have to trust his secondary to hold off the opposing receivers long enough for the pass rush to be effective.

Prediction: UCLA 45, Coastal Carolina 17. Kelly’s offense will pull away early with Ethan Garbers as the starting quarterback before finishing out the game with Dante Moore and Collin Schlee.
