A 31-year-old man was shot and killed outside a Jack in the Box restaurant in Anaheim early Monday morning, April 17, and two boys were arrested on suspicion of killing him, authorities said.
Anaheim officers were called to the area of Brookhurst Street and Ball Road just past 2 a.m. and found the victim, later identified as Carleatis Richards, suffering from a gunshot wound, Sgt. Jon McClintock said.
Arriving officers found the two boys fleeing the area and detained them, McClintock said. They were later identified as those responsible for Richards’ death, but police did not release further information as to how they were identified as the suspects.
Further information about the juveniles, including their exact ages, was not disclosed by police. It was not known if the two juveniles knew Richards, nor was it known what led to the shooting.
Video from OnSceneTV showed officers rendering medical aid to Richards in the parking lot in front of the restaurant. He later died at a hospital, McClintock said.
The Jack in the Box is located on the northwest corner of the intersection.
