Midfielder Julie Ertz made her return to the U.S. National Team for a pair of friendlies earlier this month.

Ertz did so even without being attached to a club team. Ertz appeared in both games against Ireland, coming on as a sub in the second half.

Monday, she officially has her new team as it was announced that she has joined Angel City Football Club on a one-year contract.

Angel City had acquired Ertz’s playing rights in a trade before last season with the Chicago Red Stars, but she stayed away from competition after giving birth to her son.

“I am so thrilled to be joining one of the most exciting clubs in the world in Angel City FC,” Ertz said in a statement. “From the moment they traded for my rights up until now, they have been unwavering in their support of my journey. I cannot wait to get to work with the team and finally experience the amazing game day atmosphere.”

During the recently-completed national team camp, Ertz, during media availability, said she was “in communication with a few teams.”

Ertz, a two-time U.S. Olympian and two-time World Cup winner, had spent seven seasons with the Red Stars. She was also selected U.S. Soccer’s Female Player of the Year in 2017 and 2019.

“It goes without saying how massive it is for our club to have Julie as a member of our team,” ACFC general manager Angela Hucles Mangano. “Her focus, determination, leadership, and championship mindset set her apart from most players.  She adds tremendous value to any environment she’s a part of.  We’re thrilled she chose Angel City in her return to the game.”

Ertz could make her debut Sunday when Angel City hosts San Diego Wave FC. The club is in action before that, facing OL Reign, Wednesday in the first Challenge Cup game
