LOS ANGELES  ― The Dodgers agreed to terms on a major league contract with catcher Austin Wynns and placed Will Smith on the 7-day injured list Sunday with a concussion.

Smith missed consecutive games against the Chicago Cubs. After Saturday’s game, manager Dave Roberts said the team was still performing tests on Smith and did not have a formal diagnosis. The 28-year-old catcher was present in the clubhouse for both games against the Cubs, but was not available to play.

Smith has a .333 batting average, three home runs and 12 runs batted in through his first 11 games of the season. He had started 10 of the team’s first 13 games.

Backup Austin Barnes, hitless in six games this season, is set to make his third consecutive start Sunday.

Wynns, 32, has been a career backup at the major league level in three seasons with the Baltimore Orioles (2018-21) and two with the San Francisco Giants (2022-23). He was designated for assignment by the Giants on Monday and subsequently elected free agency.

Wynns batted .259 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 65 games in 2022. Sunday, in his only game action with the Giants this season, he went 0 for 2 with two strikeouts.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-handed pitcher Alex Reyes to the 60-day injured list.
