Coachella 2023: See Day 1 photos of Bad Bunny, Gorillaz, Blink-182 and Blondie

Day one of the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicked off with a lot of enthusiasm at the Empire Polo Club in Indio on Friday, April 14.

Fans were excited to make their way back onto the sprawling festival grounds to see early-day acts including The Murder Capital, Juliet Mendoza, Domi & JD Beck, The Comet Is Coming and Muna. They also interacted with the new and iconic art installations located throughout including the playful pink-purple Molecular Cloud, that will look stunning during Saturday headliner Blackpink’s set, and the interactive Spectra Tower.

Blink-182 drew a massive crowd as the surprise guest over in the Sahara Tent midday and later that evening, producer and DJ Metro Boomin packed that same stage and treated fans to a slew of special guests like John Legend, The Weeknd and Future. Gorillaz had plenty of special guests, too, including Thundercat, Bootie Brown and members of De La Soul.

Bad Bunny, the first Latin artist to ever headline Coachella, delivered a high energy performance with tons of production, but his two-song turn with previous Coachella performer and surprise guest Post Malone fizzled during the second song when Malone’s guitar and mic went dead. The pair continued with the song, oblivious to the fact that the audience couldn’t hear Malone pounding away on an acoustic guitar. But a few sound issues didn’t stop his rabid fanbase from dancing to all of the hits well past midnight.
