Orange Lutheran’s girls water polo team made more history Saturday in its final regular-season tournament.
Kate Sloman scored three goals and Kira Anderson and Sara Naulty each added two as the Lancers defeated Los Alamitos 8-4 in the finals of the Irvine Southern California Championships at Foothill High.
The top-seeded Lancers (21-2) captured the tradition-rich tournament of the first time. In late December, they won the Holiday Cup for the first time.
Orange Lutheran led 3-0 after the first period and 4-0 early in the second before the second-seeded Griffins (20-6) challenged.
Los Alamitos trimmed Orange Lutheran’s lead to 5-4 in the middle of the third period on a goal by Olivia Ouellette.
The Lancers responded by netting the final three goals of the match. Sloman, a sophomore attacker, scored the final two on the power-play to help Orange Lutheran improve to 4-0 against Los Alamitos this season.
