Anaheim police were investigating what they believe was a homicide after a man was found dead in the street near the 91 Freeway on Thursday morning, Jan. 26, authorities said.
Officers arrived to find the victim in the southbound lanes of East Street, just south of the freeway, about 7:20 a.m., Sgt. Jon McClintock said. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died.
Police did not say what type of injuries the man suffered that led to his death, but believed he was the victim of an assault, McClintock said.
“Several citizens stopped to help the victim or render aid, but left before officers were able to stop and interview them,” McClintock said, adding that officers were hoping to find those Good Samaritans to see if they could provide information on the incident itself.
Police were not yet sure where the assault occurred.
Further information about the victim was not available and he was not identified by police pending notification of his relatives.
