LOS ANGELES – UCLA won its Pac-12 home opener Sunday afternoon, using a late 14-5 run to secure a 65-56 victory over Oregon at Pauley Pavilion.

Jaylen Clark and Amari Bailey scored 14 points apiece, Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 12 and Tyger Campbell scored 10 for the Bruins, now 2-0 in the conference and 7-2 overall. Quincy Guerrier had 15 and Will Richardson 13 for Oregon (4-4, 1-1).

UCLA struggled through a hard slog of a first half, starting out 8-for-29 from the field and going scoreless for 4:36 toward the end of the half. But Oregon led only 27-21 at halftime. The Bruins, who didn’t make a 3-pointer in the first half, had back-to-back treys by Jaylen Clark and Tyger Campbell at the start of the second half, part of a 12-4 run that put them in front, 33-31.

The Bruins led 44-38 before another scoring drought early in the second half, with a 9-0 Oregon run giving the Ducks a 47-44 lead. David Singleton’s three-pointer with 8:34 left put UCLA back in front, 49-47, and got the crowd back at full volume. A few minutes later, Singleton’s putback of a Jaime Jaquez Jr. miss gave UCLA a 55-50 lead, but Oregon pulled within 55-54 on a N’Faly Dante jump hook and two free throws by Lok Wur, after Singleton was cited for a foul while blocking the 6-9 Wur’s dunk attempt.

Amari Bailey, UCLA bounce back by blowing out Pepperdine

UCLA pulled away in the final minutes thanks to Jaquez, who in a 45-second span rebounded Brennan Rigsby’s missed 3-pointer, knocked in a jumper himself at the other end, then fed Amari Bailey for a dunk after another Oregon miss for a 63-54 edge with 1:51 left.

Bailey then swatted away a Rigsby layup attempt on a fast break for good measure with 1:15 left.
