Troy Thomas no longer is the head coach for Servite football, the school announced Monday, Nov. 14.

Thomas coached the Friars the past five seasons to a 26-23 record. Servite advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game last season.

The Friars struggled this season, finishing 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the Trinity League.

Servite’s announcement said “Servite High School and Head Football Coach Troy Thomas have parted ways.”

Thomas did not immediately reply to a text message requesting comment.

It was his second stint as Servite’s coach. He previously coached the Friars from 2005 to 2012. Servite won seven league championships, two CIF-SS championships and a CIF State title during those eight seasons.

It is the second announced coaching change in the Trinity League over the past week. Bruce Rollinson announced last week that this is the final season coaching at Mater Dei. Rollinson has coached the Monarchs since 1989.

Servite athletic director Matt Marrujo said in a statement: “Servite High School is committed to supporting our student-athletes to become the men God has called them to be. We look to the future with excitement and confidence, prepared to capitalize on Servite’s unparalleled tradition of forming faith-filled leaders on and off the field.”

Thomas has twice coached at Crespi, his alma mater. He was the Celts coach before his first term as Servite coach. He returned to Crespi as its coach between his first and second tenures at Servite.

Crespi’s coaching position is open. Crespi announced the departure of Dameron Porter as its coach after the Celts went 0-10 this season.
