Placentia voters will choose new District 2 councilman

With Placentia District 4 Councilman Chad Wanke unopposed in his reelection bid, the only council race city voters will have to decide is the one in District 2.

In that race, sheriff’s sergeant Michael Beshai and workplace safety specialist Kevin Kirwin each hope to win the seat.

In a candidate questionnaire, Beshai described himself as a fiscal conservative and said he supports better compensation for the city’s police and firefighters, that he would consider allowing development of more modern shopping centers as well as multi-family housing projects, and that his policies would be the opposite of whatever President Joe Biden’s administration is doing.

Meanwhile, Kirwin said if elected, he would look to build the city’s fiscal reserves, evaluate proposed development by asking whether it addressed current residents’ concerns, and he said he’d bring the common sense and judgment he’s used managing a successful business for years to his service on the council.
