The first Woodbridge Classic at Great Park in Irvine yielded fast times as expected in the 31st running of the cross country event.
JSerra sophomore Brynn Garcia was seventh in the Bob Day girls sweepstakes competition with a time of 16 minutes, 9.7 seconds to help the Lions to a fourth-place team finish. The winner was Ventura sophomore Sadie Engelhardt, who finished the 3-mile course in a girls meet-record 15:42.6.
JSerra freshmen Summer Wilson (16:36.5) and Kaylah Tasser (16:43.8) were 21st and 31st, respectively. Dana Hills senior Allura Markow (16:43.0) was 29th .
Clovis Buchanan was the girls sweepstakes team champion. Dana Hills finished 11th.
Newport Harbor senior Kenny Wanlass was the top Orange County finisher in the Doug Speck boys sweepstakes race with his time of 14:21.90. Godinez junior Jayden Hernandez finished 29th (14:30.6), followed by Tesoro sophomore Griffin Kushen (30th, 14:30.6) and San Clemente senior Juan Chantaca (32nd, 14:31.0).
The Woodbridge Classic had been at SilverLakes Sports Park in recent years. Plans are for the meet to continue to be at Great Park in Irvine in the coming years.
