Thomas Frum had over 300 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns Friday to lead El Toro to a 41-38 upset win over No. 14-ranked Capistrano Valley.

The senior running back capped his memorable night with a 3-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds remaining to give El Toro (2-3) the victory.

Frum scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, one of them set up by an interception by Clay Cafferty.

He later had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 76-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Ben Armendariz.

Trey Kukuk completed 19 of 36 passes for 200 yards with a touchdown for Capo Valley (3-2). The senior quarterback ran for 146 yards and four touchdowns to keep the Cougars in the game.

Hunter Napoleon caught nine passes for 97 yards for the Cougars and Jack Culver had a touchdown reception.

In other games Friday:

Crean Lutheran 35, Laguna Beach 27: Ty Benefield had four touchdown receptions to lead Crean Lutheran (4-0) to a victory in its first varsity game in its campus stadium.

The senior receiver caught nine passes for 146 yards. Quarterback Gavin Rogers completed 16 of 22 passes for 202 yards with five touchdowns.

Rogers and Benefield connected for three touchdown passes in the first eight minutes of the game to give the Saints a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

Benefield had an interception in the first half and caught another touchdown pass to give Crean Lutheran a 28-6 lead entering halftime.

Laguna Beach (2-3) scored twice in four minutes to make the game competitive. Nick Rogers ran for two touchdowns to cut the lead to 28-20.

Rogers threw a touchdown pass to Ben Buetell to extend Crean Lutheran’s lead to 35-20. Laguna Beach responded with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Das to Jackson Rodriguez.

Dana Hills 38, Woodbridge 26: Christian Guarascio rushed for over 200 yards for the fourth time this season to lead Dana Hills to a win over Woodbridge at Dana Hills High.

Dana Hills (3-1) scored 21 unanswered points at the end of the first half to give the Dolphins a 31-14 lead at the break.

Connor Vernon threw four touchdown passes for the Dolphins, three of them to San Juan Hills transfer Chase Berry. Berry caught three passes for 95 yards with three touchdowns. Guarascio had a receiving touchdown and Blaize Bolter scored on a reverse.

Edward Ma had 173 yards passing with a touchdown for Woodbridge (3-2). Tatum Ramos and Feiamma Armstrong ran for touchdowns for the Warriors.

Irvine 52, University 28: Irvine rushed for 284 yards in a blowout win over University.

Kendyn Beaver and Evan Hasegawa each ran for over 100 yards and had two touchdowns for the Vaqueros.

Quarterback Joseph Tierney ran for a touchdown and threw two touchdown passes for Irvine (2-3). Gabriel Pacheco caught two passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns from 61 and 19 yards out.

Irvine’s defense had over 10 sacks to help snap its three-game losing streak.

Brea Olinda 14, Fullerton 0: Brea Olinda scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win a defensive battle at Fullerton High.

Cullen Doyle threw a 73-yard touchdown pass to Axl Rodriguez to give Brea Olinda (3-1) its first score early in the fourth quarter. Rodriguez scored again shortly after that to extend the lead to 14.

Brea Olinda’s defense, led by Joseph Gomez and Roman Meraz, had its first shutout since the spring 2021 season.

In the Orange Coast League:

Santa Ana 35, St. Margaret’s 21: Santa Ana scored two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win its league opener at St. Margaret’s.

Quarterback Sergio Torres ran for a 50-yard touchdown to give Santa Ana (2-3, 1-0) a 28-21 lead with 9 minutes remaining in the game.

One minute later, Saints defensive end Ignacio Marin recovered a fumble and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown.

JJ Garcia ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns for Santa Ana behind a strong effort from its offensive line.

Max Ruff threw touchdown passes to Will Viola and Owen Binder for St. Margaret’s (0-5, 0-1). The junior quarterback also had a rushing touchdown in the second quarter.

Santa Ana is on a two-game winning streak and will host Estancia Friday Sept. 23.

No. 14 El Modena 43, No. 21 La Habra 6: Vanguards quarterback Xzavior Guess passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more as El Modena improved to 4-0 with the win over the Highlanders (1-4).

Elijah Wu scored on a fumble recovery for El Modena. Mayson Hitchens ran for a touchdown for the Vanguards, who play at No. 22 San Juan Hills on Friday, Sept. 23.

No. 6 Orange Lutheran 37, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 14: Sophomore quarterback TJ Lateef threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns for the Lancers (4-1) at Orange Coast College.

Jackson Weng had five receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. Also catching Lateef touchdown passes were Ben Alefaio, Antonio Barrera and AJ Ia.

Orange Lutheran opens Trinity League play Sept. 30 against No. 3 Santa Margarita at Orange Coast College.

Sonora 48, Esperanza 19: Anthony Abad surpassed 150 rushing yards and scored three rushing touchdowns in the win for the Raiders (4-1) at Yorba Linda High.

Nick Fernandez ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass. Brady Ackerman also rushed for a touchdown for Sonora.

Sonora, 3-6 last season, has a bye this coming week. The Raiders play their Freeway League opener Sept. 30 against Buena Park at La Habra High.

No. 16 Villa Park 39, at Chula Vista Eastlake 3: Sophomore Nate Lewis scored a rushing touchdown and intercepted a pass on defense for the Spartans (2-2) in the game at Chula Vista High.

Defensive end Lucas Simone caused two fumbles, had a fumble recovery and blocked a punt.

Villa Park coach Dusan Ancich said linebacker Carter Christie also was a leader for the Spartans’ defensive effort.

Villa Park plays Mira Costa on Friday, Sept. 23 at El Modena High.

Garden Grove 20, Torrance 0: Running back Malachi Bey ran for two touchdowns and contributed an interception on defense for the Argonauts (4-0).

Dominick Brito had a touchdown reception and added an interception. Eric Fernandez had an interception. Eli Santana had two sacks.
