Los Alamitos Locos is the OCVarsity football Student Section of the Week

Rent Computer Hardware You Need, When You Need It

Manny Alvarez of the Student Section Report is writing for OCVarsity about the high school student sections during the football season. Each Monday morning the Orange County Student Section of the Week will be announced. At the end of the season, an OCVarsity Student Section of the Year will be chosen.

Loudly cheering in the stands for an entire game in the pouring rain? That’s straight up Loco.

So I guess it was fitting that the Los Alamitos Locos showed up for a huge matchup between the Griffins and Servite on Friday night.

The Locos had a tough matchup too, battling with the mighty Servite Asylum. The Locos were so crazy that we really didn’t hear much from the Asylum. Probably didn’t help that Los Al was in control the entire night.

The Locos wanted yours truly to be there, but OCVarsity Hall of Famer Steve Fryer was at the game and the Locos gave him the same welcome they’ve always given me.

Fryer came away very impressed.

“A little rain,” Fryer said sarcastically. “OK, a lot of rain that was flying horizontally and at times, it could not dampen by the enthusiasm of the Los Al Locos. It’s a Cracker Jack group!”

The roller coaster, parting of the Red Sea and endless cheers every time the Griffins scored in the rain is something these students will never forget.

Despite the Aliso Niguel Den traveling and taking over their opponent’s home, the Los Alamitos Locos are the OCVarsity Student Section of the Week for Week 3.

“The Locos would like to thank the OC Register for awarding us with Student Section of the Week,” The Locos Spirit team said in a statement. “We would not have been able to accomplish this title without the continuous support from the students, parents, staff and of course, our star football team, who made the night even more epic and memorable. Our student section brings so much unity to our school and we are so proud to be recognized for it. This honor makes us feel that our hard work has paid off! This game has also shown that nothing, not even rain, can stop the Locos. The worse the weather got, the louder the Locos were! Those earplugs we gave Servite definitely did not go to waste!”

OTHER WEEK 3 FINALISTS

Aliso Niguel Den: The Den is looking to do what they did in the Winter and take the top spot and a very strong showing on the road in white and in the rain against Dana Hills is definitely helpful.

El Dorado Nest: The Nest is moving up after another packed house with the Golden Hawks keeping the Bell with a victory over Valencia.

Capistrano Valley Cage: A “little” rain is not going to ruin the Cage evening as they a packed the house on Friday, even bringing the powder that I’m sure Michael Huntley enjoyed from the outdoor press box.

Canyon Tribe: After three strong showings on the road, the Tribe came in strong on Thursday night for a home game against Pacifica. I can’t wait to see a home game on a Friday because the Tribe is legit this football season!

St. Margaret’s Kitchen: You think the Kitchen halftime contest would get dampered by the rain? Think again. The Kitchen made the best of it on Friday.

Manny’s Predictions for Week 4

Sonora Jungle moving up: The Jungle is normally a basketball-only type of Student Section, but they’ve been on a roll this football season. The Raiders play on the road Friday against Esperanza, and if the Jungle goes with them to battle with the Esperanza Aztec Nation, then the Jungle will move higher in the rankings.

El Modena will be road warriors Friday: After three strong showings at their home stadium, the Rowdy Rooters will head to La Habra to see their Vanguards take on La Habra. The La Habra Highlander Huddle will be ready because the Rowdy Rooters look to take over their home stadium.

JSerra Lion Nation is overdue: JSerra host Rancho Cucamonga in an important game to determine who is better in the Trinity League. Rancho Cucamonga beat Servite on Aug. 19. If the Lion Nation can send us photos and video by 11 pm on Friday when we announce our nominees, they should get in easily and perhaps be the Student Section of the Week.

Code Red is missing one thing: With so many Student Sections going crazy this season, the tiebreaker is tagging (@studentsectrep) to get the recognition. Orange Lutheran Code Red is showing up, but they don’t seem to want OCVarsity to know about it. Once they read this, they’ll know to hit us up and show off their school spirit to us as they host Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.

My predictions on the student section finalists for Week 4: Beckman Brigade, Fullerton Red Zone, JSerra Lion Nation, Mission Viejo Diablo Inferno, Orange Lutheran Code Red, San Clemente Loud Crowd with the JSerra Lion Nation being my predicted winner.
