Coronavirus: Orange County reported 1,422 new cases since Tuesday

The OC Health Care Agency reported 1,422 more cases of the coronavirus from Tuesday, Sept.6, to Thursday, Sept. 8, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 662,438.

There were 5,314 new cases reported in the last two-week period. The county is averaging at least 11.9 new cases a day per every 100,000 residents.

There were 189 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Friday, including 26 who required intensive care.

The county also reported 24 more deaths, bringing the count of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,389.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Sept. 1.

Of the 7,389 deaths reported from the virus, 1,409 were skilled nursing facility residents, 729 were in assisted living facilities, two were OC jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 643,799 people in the county have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
