A 75-year-old man remained hospitalized Tuesday morning, Aug. 30, after he was hit by a car on Imperial Highway in Brea over the weekend, authorities said.
Brea police weren’t sure why he was in the roadway between Associated Road and the 57 Freeway when he was hit about 11:35 p.m. Sunday night, Aug. 28, Lt. Chris Harvey said.
The portion of roadway where he was struck, between a shopping center to the north and gas stations to the south, does not include crosswalks across Imperial Highway.
“It’s not a place where people normally cross,” Harvey said. “It’s pretty treacherous.”
A passerby saw the collision and called police.
The man suffered significant injuries, Harvey said.
The car, believed to be an older, light-colored Lexus sedan, continued onto the northbound 57 Freeway following the collision and is believed to have front-end and windshield damage, police said. The car, and its driver, had not yet been found.
Investigators were looking for additional witnesses and surveillance or dash-cam video, police said. Anyone with information about the collision was asked to call Cpl. Anthony Nguyen at 714-990-7640.
