HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 70-year-old woman suspected of killing a bicyclist in Huntington Beach while driving an SUV under the influence was in custody Wednesday.
Huntington Beach Police Department officers were called at approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday to Pacific Coast Highway, north of Admiralty Drive, where they learned a black 2018 Toyota RAV4 had struck a bicycle, spokeswoman Jessica Cuchilla said.
Investigating officers determined that the RAV4 was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway and struck the bicyclist traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the roadway, north of Admiralty Drive.
The bicyclist was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, Cuchilla said.
The driver of the Toyota RAV4, who police identified as Barbara Front, of Huntington Beach, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The investigation of the collision was ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it was asked to call HBPD Traffic Investigator J. Rounds at 714-536-5670.
