A person was detained for questioning after human remains were found in Huntington Beach, authorities said Sunday, July 17.

On Saturday, Huntington Beach police officers responded to the 7800 block of Slater Avenue, west of Beach Boulevard, regarding “suspicious circumstances,” the Huntington Beach Police Department said in a news release. The officers arrived and requested help from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, police said.

Personnel excavated an area and an unidentified woman’s remains were found buried, said Jessica Cuchilla, spokeswoman for the Police Department.

ABC7 video from the scene showed crime scene personnel at the location on Slater Avenue, a mobile home park.

A person of interest was detained for questioning early Sunday morning, Cuchilla said. No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon, she said.

There was no threat to public safety, authorities said.

Anyone with information relating to the incident was asked to call the Police Department at 714-375-5066.
