Albayati last week was named The Register’s female athlete of the year for 2021-22 after compiling a 12-0 record on the mound to lead the Colonists to their first CIF-SS final since 1980 and the semifinals of the CIF State SoCal Division V regional tournament.

Albayati, who also played infield and hit .351 with 17 RBIs, was named the Orange League MVP, All-CIF and to the Orange County all-star game.

After the baseball season, she played shortstop in a travel softball tournament with Firecrackers TJ.

San Marcos finished last season 45-14 and ranked No. 11 in the nation for Division II. The team lost to Cal State Dominguez Hills in the NCAA West Super Regionals.

“Jill will work to put herself in the best possible position,” Anaheim baseball coach Mike Barrera said. “She is a student of the game. Can’t wait to see what she does. She will help any ball club.”

Villa Park product Sammie Olivo was a redshirt freshman outfielder for San Marcos last season.
