California voters had two decisions to make about Sen. Alex Padilla in the Tuesday, June 7, primary election.

Padilla was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to the U.S. Senate seat that was vacated when Kamala Harris became vice president. Voters now get to weigh in on whether Padilla should keep the seat for the remainder of the term, which expires in January. They also get to choose who should fill the seat for the next full term, which will last six years.

Padilla is facing seven challengers in the special election regarding this term, and 22 challengers in the regular election for next term. In both primary races, the top two finishers will go on to the general election in November.
