Coronavirus: Orange County reported 4,206 new cases and no deaths, June 7

The OC Health Care Agency reported 4,206 more cases of the coronavirus between Friday, June 3, and Tuesday, June 7, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 579,292.

There were 8,684 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Tuesday. The county is averaging about 20.5 new cases a day per every 100,000 residents.

County officials are now reporting updates to coronavirus-related case counts on Tuesdays and Fridays, following changes to reporting timelines at the state level.

There were 158 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Tuesday, including 18 who required intensive care.

The county reported no new deaths on Tuesday, keeping the count of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,045.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on May 27.

Of the 7,045 deaths reported from the virus, 1,339 were skilled nursing facility residents, 706 were in assisted living facilities, two were OC jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 551,658 people in the county have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
