LOS ANGELES – President Joe Biden on Monday announced the nomination of E. Martin Estrada as U.S. Attorney for the Los Angeles-based Central District of California, the largest federal district in the nation.

Estrada is a partner in Los Angeles at California law firm Munger, Tolles, & Olson LLP, where he has practiced since 2014. He also served as an associate at the same firm from 2004 to 2007.

He previously served as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District from 2007 to 2014.

Estrada also served as a law clerk for Judge Arthur L. Alarcón on the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals from 2003 to 2004 and Judge Robert J. Timlin in Riverside federal court from 2002 to 2003. He received his law degree from Stanford University, with distinction, in 2002 and his bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine.

The nomination must now be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

The Central District of California is comprised of the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. About 20 million people live in the district, making it by far the largest federal district in the nation.
