UCLA baseball earned a No. 2 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, making the postseason for the fifth consecutive season.

The Bruins (38-22, 19-11 Pac-12) were selected to the Auburn Regional during the selection show on Monday as part of the 64-team field. UCLA begins play in the regional bracket on Friday against No. 3 seed Florida State at 9 a.m. PT.

The other two teams in the regional bracket are Auburn and Southeastern Louisiana — who play later on Friday — and the four teams will face off in a double elimination format.

This is UCLA’s 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and it has made the bracket 14 times in the last 18 seasons. Last year, the Bruins fell in the regional round with losses to North Carolina and Texas Tech.

UCLA was among five Pac-12 schools selected to the tournament, joining Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State and Stanford. Oregon State and Stanford were No. 1 seeds, while Arizona and Oregon were also No. 2 seeds. Stanford defeated Oregon State in the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament.

The Pac-12 was tied with the Big-12 for the third most teams selected to the field, with the ACC and SEC leading the way at nine teams each.

The regionals run through June 6, with super regionals beginning June 10 and the College World Series in Omaha beginning June 17.

The winner of the Auburn Regional will face the winner of the Corvallis Regional, which includes Oregon State, Vanderbilt, San Diego and New Mexico State.

The Bruins’ last appearance in the College World Series was 2013, which was also the year that they last captured the championship. Head coach John Savage, who has led UCLA to the postseason in 13 of 17 seasons besides 2020, owns a 44-25 record overall in postseason play. His UCLA teams have a 28-15 record in the regional round, an 8-5 record in the super regionals and a 9-5 record in the College World Series.

UCLA had a memorable time in the inaugural Pac-12 tournament, where it ultimately finished one game short of reaching the final after two thrilling games against Oregon State.

The Bruins defeated the Beavers 25-22 on Saturday in a marathon affair that ended with a walk-off three-run homer by Tommy Beres in the 10th inning. That set up a rematch for a spot in the championship game, but UCLA lost 8-7 to Oregon State thanks to a ninth-inning rally by the Beavers.

The Bruins entered the selection show with the 48th best RPI in the NCAA. UCLA finished the regular season ranked 18th in the country, with a 35-20 record and a 19-11 league record. They were the No. 3 seed in the Pac-12 tournament.

UCLA ranked in the top 10 nationally in ERA, WHIP and strikeout-to-walk ratio during the regular season, and had six players named to the Pac-12 All-Conference Team.
