A man was killed and a woman injured when their car crashed into a palm tree in Huntington Beach, severing the car in half Thursday night, May 26, authorities said.
The pair had been pursued by Fountain Valley officers, but the chase had been called off moments before the crash, Huntington Beach Lt. Thoby Archer said.
Huntington Beach officers were notified around 7:30 p.m. that a pursuit was headed into their city as the driver traveled south on Brookhurst Avenue, Archer said. The driver got into an accident in the area of Brookhurst and Adams avenues and continued on.
“(Fountain Valley police) cancelled the pursuit because he continued to drive crazy,” Archer said.
Severa blocks away, near Bushard Street, the car slammed into the palm tree in Brookhurst’s median.
Further information about the man and the woman was not immediately available.
Fountain Valley police were not immediately available to provide information about when and where the pursuit started, or why the suspects were wanted.
