Edison’s boys golf team left no doubt on Thursday.

Powered by a deep and well-balanced lineup, the Chargers captured the CIF/SCGA SoCal regional tournament by five shots with a 1-under-par 359 at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena one week after relinquishing the title at the qualifier due to incorrect scorecard.

Edison captured the SoCal event for the first time — a feat unmatched even by its state title team in 2007 — by having its five players all shoot in the low 70s with two strokes separating the group.

Junior Ben Crinella and senior Timothy Jung each posted 1-under-par 71s while seniors Jake Rothman and Troy Tarvin added even-par 72s. Junior Connor Krueger carded a 1-over-par 73 to round out a lineup that led the qualifying for the CIF State tournament Wednesday at San Gabriel Country Club.

“The key was definitely having a balanced team,” said Edison coach Brendan Patch. “For us, it’s not just one or two players carrying the rest of the team. We’ve got seven great players who we can rely on to play well.

“Our team depth has been our strength all year.”

Torrey Pines (364) and Sunny Hills (368) finished second and third, respectively, to join Edison in advancing to the state tournament.

Cal-bound senior Daniel Heo of Cypress won a one-hole playoff with Luke Potter of Classical Academy to win the individual title with a 5-under-par 67 and pace individual qualifying for state.

Other individual state qualifiers from O.C. were: Marina’s Diesel Roman (69), Troy’s Nathan Tseng (70) and Dana Hills’ Nick Davis (70). Only the top-nine individuals on non-state qualifying teams advanced to state tournament.
