Steve Fryer’s list of outstanding baseball players last week:
Jillian Albayati, Anaheim, Sr. P/1B: She made CIF Southern Section history by being the first girl to be the starting pitcher in a CIF-SS championship game. Albayati pitched nine innings, allowed one run and drove in the Colonists’ run with a single in their 2-1 loss to Estancia in the Division 6 final.
Coleton Dahl, Tesoro, Sr. P: Dahl shut out Fullerton for his six innings of work in the Titans’ 3-0 win over Fullerton in the CIF-SS Division 4 championship game. He had 11 strikeouts and gave up three hits.
Zach Fany, Fullerton, Fr., 2B: One of Fullerton’s better players all season, Fany was 1 for 2 with a sacrifice bunt in the Indians’ loss to Tesoro in the Division 4 final and scored the go-ahead run in their 6-4 win over Aquinas in the semifinals.
Tyler Gough, JSerra, Sr., P: He struck out six batters in 2 1/3 innings in the Lions 3-1 win over Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks in the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game. Gough struck out the side in JSerra’s 4-1 win over Villa Park in the Division 1 semifinals.
Trevor Scott, Estancia, Sr., P/3B: After pitching seven shutout innings in the Division 6 semifinals Scott drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning of the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Santa Ynez. In their 2-1, 11-inning win over Anaheim in the championship game Scott pitched three scoreless innings in relief and was 2 for 5 at the plate and scored the winning run.
