MISSION VIEJO — A youthful but talented group of six divers from Orange County qualified Wednesday for the CIF State championships next week in Fresno.
San Juan Hills sophomore Taylor Fox stayed hot by capturing the Southern Section’s six-dive state qualifier at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex.
Fox, who won the Division 1 title last week, scored 318.20 points to pace a state-bound lineup featuring sophomores Avery Giese of San Juan Hills and Sheridan Smith of Santa Margarita and juniors Abigail Ekstrom of Fullerton and Ella Roselli of Mater Dei.
Giese scored 303.95 points to edge Ekstrom by .15 for second place. Roselli finished a close fourth at 298.20 while Smith claimed the sixth and final spot with a score of 280.05.
Dana Hills senior Rhys Davies was the lone county boy to advance to state. The first-time state qualifier finished sixth with 304.75 points to hold off Laguna Beach freshman and Crown Valley Divers teammate Chase Shipp (293.90).
