The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicked off its encore weekend on Friday, April 22 in a cool way. No, seriously, it was one of the coolest days temperature-wise in the festival’s history.

It was also Earth Day, and longtime festival partner Global Inheritance had multiple programs focusing on sustainability happening around the event.

But festival promoter Goldenvoice has also launched some new programs with this year’s festival, including the HeadQ+uarters tent, part of a new initiative called Q+, which aims to empower, celebrate and provide a gathering place for the Queer+ and the Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.

Back to the music, it was all about Harry Styles and #Harrychella again on Friday night. While he played the new songs “Boyfriends” and “Late Night Talking” he debuted live at the festival last week, he did have something new for the crowd. He brought out Lizzo, who played Coachella herself back in 2019, out for a feathered boa-clad rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s disco classic “I Will Survive” and then “You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful” from Styles’ former band One Direction. It was a dance party of the most epic order on the main field.

In other musical guest news, Baby Keem brought out Kendrick Lamar for a guest spot Friday night in the Sahara Tent.
