A Tesla driver accidentally accelerated instead of pressing the brakes in Dana Point Harbor, landing the car on the rocky embankment over the water’s edge, Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
A call was made around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7 for help to recover the stranded car.
The sheriff’s department deployed a water rescue boat to be prepared in case the car tipped forward into the channel, said Sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Braun.
The driver was uninjured and the car was safely brought back to solid ground. The incident – especially how close the vehicle got to the water – was unusual, Braun said. There’s no boundary between the parking area and the rocks.
No word on whether the driver was visiting the harbor or a local.
