UCLA edge rusher Mitchell Agude commits to Miami

Former UCLA edge rusher Mitchell Agude announced his commitment to Miami coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes in an Instagram post on Friday.

Agude took an official visit to Miami over the weekend and was seen on social media having taken photos with Cristobal, who left Oregon during the offseason, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor among others.

Agude, a former Corona Santiago High standout, was the third-leading tackler for UCLA with 54 total tackles in 12 games last season. The Bruins’ top two leading tacklers, defensive back Qwuantrezz Knight and linebacker Jordan Genmark Heath, have declared for the NFL draft.

Agude also finished the season with four forced fumbles, two sacks and one fumble recovery in 2021.

He started his college career at Riverside City College before transferring to UCLA for the 2020 season. Agude initially announced his decision to return for a third season at UCLA, forgoing the NFL draft, but changed course in February when he declared for the transfer portal.

He became the second notable defensive player to leave Westwood for Miami during Chip Kelly’s UCLA tenure.

Redlands East Valley alumnus Jaelan Phillips was ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit, according to 247sports’ composite rankings in 2017, when he committed to Coach Jim Mora and the Bruins in 2017. He transferred to Miami after two years at UCLA and was later drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2021.

Agude mentioned Phillips in his Instagram post on Friday when he announced his commitment to Miami: “Y’all remember the last time a kid went from UCLA to the U, … Ay @jjphillips15 let’s run up the sequel #GoCanes.”

Agude made official visits to Washington and Oregon in recent weeks.
