The Jets were finalists for star receiver Tyreek Hill, but Hill chose to go to Miami.

The Dolphins are sending their 2022 first (No. 29), second, and fourth-round picks, along with 2023 fourth and sixth-round picks to Kansas City for Hill.

The Jets were reportedly in heavy talks to acquire Hill, who asked for a trade from the Chiefs after they failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

Gang Green was willing to offer picks and a new contract to Hill, but according to ESPN. the Jets’ offer did not include a first-round pick. Multiple picks made it comparable to Miami’s offer.

A team source wasn’t optimistic that Hill would come to New York, and they were right as he chose the Dolphins.

Hill is one of the best receivers in the NFL, with a combination of Olympic speed and outstanding route running. He possessed the ability to score anytime he touches the ball. He’s a six-time Pro Bowler and a three-time first team All-Pro.

Hill would have been great for Zach Wilson’s development just like he was for Patrick Mahomes.

But now Hill ended up within the division and the Jets will face him twice a year, along with Jaylen Waddle. It’s a daunting assignment for a rebuilding Jets secondary that will also see Buffalo’s Stefon Diggs twice.

The rest of the Jets offseason must aggressively address the defense to counter the offenses within the division. Last year the Jets defense was 32nd in points (29.6) and yards allowed (397).

The Jets added cornerback D.J Reed and safety Jordan Whitehead to bolster a young secondary. But there’s still work to be done.
